Speaking to the Italian outlet Radio CRC, as quoted by Goal, the Uruguayan star’s agent Pablo Bentancur explained how Torreira had a lot of potential suitors before he finalised the move to Arsenal.
“If Arsenal had collapsed then Napoli would have been perfect. Arsenal satisfied all of our requests, even paying €5m more than the release clause. He’s adapting well to the Premier League, he’s settling well and he’s happy”
Lucas caught the eye for Sampdoria during last season and it was believed that Partenopei had identified the player as the perfect replacement for Jorginho, who completed a huge-money move to Chelsea.
However, the Gunners were quick to swoop for the young defensive midfielder and completed a deal for the player, fending off the likes of the Italian side in the process.
Bentancur reflected on Lucas’ decision to join Arsenal but admitted that the prospect of seeing his client under the management of Carlo Ancelotti at the Naples-based outfit would have been interesting.
