The pair met when Mourinho was working as assistant manager to Louis van Gaal at Barcelona in 2001. And things just kicked off from there.
Inseparable they were until the 43-year-old quit as assistant manager in Manchester United in May.
Faria who is said to often play “good cop” than the grumpier Jose Mourinho has been heavily praised for his calm demeanour in the dressing room.
Faria may not be a raging bull like Jose Mourinho, but he has had to stand up on different occasions backing his boss where he felt they had suffered too big a hit.
In April 2014, the 43-year-old had to be dismissed when he complained about a penalty that had been awarded to Sunderland. The Blues would later lose them, resulting into Chelsea’s first Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge under the Portuguese.
While this has been a huge loss to the United’s chief, there are suggestions he could be angling for a number two.
However, the 48-year-old has suggested he’ll not be heading down that route.
“[There will be] no number two,” Mourinho said. “Moving forward, I will organise my coaching staff in a way where the assistant manager figure doesn’t exist.
“I miss my friend Rui [Faria] but not my assistant because friends you cannot replace, friends are friends forever,” he said earlier this summer.”
