There were many questions raised on Mourinho and the players following the defeat. In this phase of disappointment, one man who has been giving top-notch performances for Manchester United is the left-back Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw was a highly regarded fullback during his time at Southampton and this earned a £30 million move to Old Trafford making him the most expensive teenager in the world of football at the time.
Since his arrival at Manchester United Luke Shaw has been scrappy at times and inconsistent. Ever since his injury against PSV Eindhoven which ruled him out for six months, Shaw has struggled to keep his place in the starting eleven.
Last season Luke Shaw was heavily criticized by Jose Mourinho and was not even able to get a game under him and now Luke Shaw has to be the first name’s on Mourinho’s team sheet.
In these first few games, Mourinho has been chopping and changing the squad a lot which saw the likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial being dropped from the starting eleven but Luke Shaw’s name has been consistently in the starting eleven for all the three matches till now.
Mourinho said –
Of course, the kid has to be upset with the result, but the kid has to know that he has had three very good matches in the Premier League and today he was very, very good. I am very, very happy with him.
If we look back to the Mourinho’s time at Chelsea, there was a similar situation at Stamford Bridge where it was Willian who stepped up and gave commendable performances scoring seven goals to save the job of Jose Mourinho during his final days at Chelsea.
What looks like Jose Mourinho’s final few days at Old Trafford this time it is Luke Shaw who has taken the role of Willian and put up some amazing performances for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.
