All terms agreed: Manchester United beat Chelsea to the signing of winger, see highlights of Player

Manchester United stole a march on Chelsea over the signing of Dutch youngster Tahith Chong, this is according to reports. Chong traveled with the rest of Man United squad on their pre-season tour in the USA but under Mourinho, he did not feature for the Red Devils.

He was handed his debut for the club in the FA Cup against Reading last week, where he gave a good account of himself.

He has been tipped to have a great future in Europe but he could have been donning the Jersey of Chelsea as we understand.

Former Man United Youth coach Derek Langley, has laid bare how he beat Chelsea to the signing of the now 19-year-old old winger.

“Tahith was spotted when he was a 14/15-year-old playing in a tournament at Carrington. What used to be the Nike Premier Cup,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“He had already been tipped by our scouts in Holland and basically I followed him at that tournament and then I followed him all over Europe.

“Tahith’s parents would be the first to tell you that his form dipped slightly due to growth issues so at that time I just held fire.

“I carried on watching him and realised his form was coming back.

“He was on the verge of signing for Chelsea and I managed to convince his parents and the boy his future lied at United.”

As typical with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he told the rising star to enjoy himself at United and the player impressed in the clash against Reading.

The Norwegian boss had this to say about the performance of the player>

“He had two or three really good moments, as you do when you’re young,” Solskjaer said.

“You don’t run the game as a first performance for a 19-year-old.

“But he got the crowd going, and has shown one or two glimpses of what he can do, he has in training anyway.

“And the game wasn’t won, it was 2-0 and was still go out there and perform.

“It’s not like it was 4-0 and it’s just a party, so he did well defensively as well and I think he’ll remember this for a long, long time.”
