THE UNITED BOARD WANTED THIS FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED INTERIM BOSS AND CLUB LEGEND AS THEIR INTERIM BOSS.
Before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed, fans wanted the likes of Zidane and Pochettino to take over the club. However, Manchester United instead appointed former Red Devil player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian is doing great at this time and finally brought smiles back at Old Trafford. However, it seems the board wanted this former United player and former interim boss as their boss.
Manchester United were open to appointing Ryan Giggs as Jose Mourinho’s replacement before they decided on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Welshman took interim charge when David Moyes was sacked in 2014. He also served as Louis van Gaal’s assistant for two years until 2016. Giggs was being groomed for the job but he left the Theatre of Dreams when Mourinho took charge.

Giggs has since taken his first role in management with the Welsh national team. United’s board wanted a figure that knew the club and could restore some positivity after Mourinho dented the squad’s atmosphere during his final months in the north-west.
The Norwegian has won all four of his first four fixtures as United caretaker boss. Also, the club will consider appointing him on a permanent basis if they can’t land their first choice, Mauricio Pochettino. Solskjaer is desperate to stay at Old Trafford and the 45-year-old has the backing of former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The Scot was at United’s Carrington training ground on Saturday and spoke to the squad as a whole, before talking to some members individually. He reminded them about their duties as a United player and their responsibility to represent the club and its values.

Solskjaer’s expected to make a number of changes as his side host Reading at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday. Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku are both expected to start.
AUTHOR’S TAKE:
It seems Giggs was there preferred first choice candidate. The board may have been seen him as the man to succeed Jose. However, it would have been difficult for Giggs to manage Manchester United and Wales at the same time. Also, there would be no way Giggs would give up the national job for a few months at Old Trafford.
