Emery has a long history with the 65-cap Argentina international, having worked with him whilst in charge of both Valencia and Sevilla. For the latter, the pair won the Europa League together twice.
A third instalment of the partnership could be in store at Arsenal. The 30-year-old could certainly become an asset for the North London club, and it’d be very useful for Emery to have a player already very familiar and comfortable with his methods and style of play at his disposal at the Emirates Stadium.
Banega would bring experience, technical quality, creativity and tenacity to the heart of the Arsenal midfield. However, his age and relative lack of Champions League level experience could count against him.
