Omeruo, who has spent the past three seasons on loan in Turkey, is now looking forward to spending the next twelve months trying his luck in la Liga after swiftly completing his summer move.
The 24-year-old received offers from other LaLiga clubs but has opted to join Leganes, who will have an option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old central defender, who can also play at right-back, moved to Stamford Bridge from Standard Liege in 2012.
Chelsea revealed on their official website: “Omeruo spent last season on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa, where he made 28 appearances and was named in the Nigeria squad for this summer’s World Cup.
“He started two matches during the tournament, against Iceland and Argentina, and will now join La Liga side Leganes, who are managed by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino.”
Here is what we think.
It is a very smart move for the 24-year old to make as Leganes will give him the regular game time he needs to test himself in such a big league La Liga.
It may not be the toughest league in world football, but is just behind the Premier League as many top players preferred destination, with the Bundesliga down in third.
It will also give the young man a chance to force a career away from Chelsea as he will not get the first-team opportunities he needs to prove himself to boss Maurizio Sarri, who is keen to offload a number of fringe players that he feels will not make an impact on the side.
Leganes are no Chelsea, but Omerou will now look to impress and get a permament move, as he has no future at Stamford Bridge.
