Aubameyang 29, joined Arsenal in a £56-million January move from Dortmund after a standoff with the club, and Stoger who was manager at the time reveals that his exit did not go smoothly as he missed team meetings, refused to run in training among other antics to force the club to sell him.
“He left me no other choice. He trained well four days of the week,” Stoger told Sport Bild.
“But to underline his wish for a transfer, he skipped team meetings before games or refused to run during the final training. ‘We did our best to keep him for at least another half a year, but Auba wasn’t ready for that.
‘Honestly, I got along well with him although he kept me pretty busy for four weeks. ‘But Auba personally apologised to me before joining Arsenal. ‘He told me that his behaviour had nothing to do with my person and that he had felt my support.”
Both the player and his former club will not be heartbroken as the Gabonese international has gone on to score 18 goals and make 5 assists in 23 league games since joining Arsenal, while Borussia Dortmund became £56 million richer and are currently topping the Bundesliga table with a good shot at the title this season.
