Here are 2 fringe Man United players who Mourinho should probably offload in January including 33-year-old veteran

Manchester United have made a mediocre start to the season, with pressure on the manager and the players to perform at a higher level than what they are currently doing. They are lying in eighth position in the league table, seven points of the top after eight games into the league season.

The Red Devils got away with one against Newcastle United when they had to come from two goals down to win 3-2. Despite the rally in the second half, the general performance of the defence and of the whole team hasn’t been up to the standard.

Jose Mourinho is under pressure because of the stature of the club he is managing. However, barring the stick the manager has taken, the players too need to take some responsibility for how they have fared this season.

The manager puts the team out but it is the players who have to take more accountability of what is happening on the pitch. After all, they are playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Here are the two players who should be offloaded by United in January to generate some funds for buying new players:

Ashley Young
The 33-year-old Englishman revived his career last year by playing at left-back in the absence of Luke Shaw. His performances earned him a surprise call-up to England’s World Cup squad. He even played for Gareth Southgate’s men as a left wing-back and did well.

On the contrary, Young hasn’t been good this season. It could be because he his ageing and might not have the stamina to move up and down the pitch. The game against Newcastle was an evidence of him not being able to track the runs after moving forward to support the attack.

Hence, it would be better for the club to let go of him in the winter and buy a replacement.

Matteo Darmian
Darmian hasn’t been Mourinho’s regular player in the line-up since the Portuguese’s arrival. The Italian was even sure of leaving Manchester in the summer but for some reason, he stayed. In spite of that, he has not been able to bring himself back into the manager’s plans.

Manchester United have Diogo Dalot, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw to take care of the full-back positions. And from what we have seen from Mourinho this season so far, Darmian doesn’t seem to be in his plans.

Therefore, it would be good for the player to leave the club in January.
