Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed he is ready to give Andreas Pereira a chance to prove his worth at Manchester United this season.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been impressive during United pre-season tour of America after a year away at Valencia.

Pereira made 29 appearances for Valencia, scoring once, after having enjoyed a strong loan stint at Granada the season before. The Brazil Under-23 international believes he has returned a more rounded player.

The Belgium-born midfielder, who has switched his allegiance to Brazil, impressed Mourinho and his coaching staff with his performances after two years spent away on loan.

Successive spells in Spain with Granada and Valencia last season saw the 22-year-old mature and develop to the extent he is now considered a key member of Mourinho’s squad.

Mourinho knows he requires more depth and flair in the centre of the pitch and has been won over by Pereira’s performances on the pitch in the US as well as his application in training.

Pereira took the surprise decision to ask Mourinho for a loan last summer rather than fight for a first-team spot, but he now believes his future lies at Old Trafford.

Speaking about his role in midfield, the youngster told The National: ‘My best position now is as a number six.
