“It is something I want to achieve” – David Luiz reveals why the EFL Cup is the most important trophy for him this season
Eden Hazard came off the bench to score the winner on the 84th minute of the game. The victory means Chelsea now advance to face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final stage after Wednesday night’s draw while Manchester City face Burton in the other last-four clash.

It is Chelsea’s first semi-final appearance this campaign and should they beat Spurs in the doubleheader, they would be on their way to winning their first silverware under Maurizio Sarri.
Central defender Luiz is adamant his side are taking the competition seriously this season, as this would give their new manager a trophy to celebrate. However, he reveals the reason he personally can’t wait to lift the Carabao Cup as it is the only trophy he hasn’t won in English football.
“Of course. He is working for that. He is a great coach, with a great philosophy, great enthusiasm, and we want to make him happy. If we can win a trophy as soon as possible for him that will be great. Can lifting the League Cup have a knock-on effect for other competitions we are playing in? It is always a great thing to win trophies, always great to play in big games and competitions.

The League Cup is always important. It is another trophy we can win. It is something I want to achieve, too, because it is the only trophy I haven’t won during my time with Chelsea. We will do our best [tonight against Bournemouth].”
