Ian Wright Reveals Why £17.6m Arsenal New Signing Will Flop

Unai Emery bolstered his backline with the arrival of pair: Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephan Lichtsteiner, this summer.

Arsenal, last season were completely vulnerable in their defence and recorded one of the worst records away among the Premier League’s top ten.

The Gunners struggled to hold out against rivals away from home, contrasting a better home record, last season.

And Emery’s appointment after Wenger’s departure would ensure the quick fix of wrecked defence.

But former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has questioned the arrival of Sokratis Papastathopoulos to the Emirates.

The Greek international may have boasted a solid record in the German Bundesliga with former Klopp side Borussia Dortmund, but Wright is unconvinced he can meet the complex challenges of the Premier League.

The 6ft 1 towering guard who joined Arsenal from Dortmund for a reported fee of 17.6 million pounds was once been hailed for his defensive work on the field by former teammate now Bayern Munich defender Mat Hummels.

On January 2017, he was given plaudits as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga by German magazine Kicker.

The Greek international finished joint-third in the Europe’s top-five league, for highest tackle success rate in 2014-15 Bundesliga season, winning 92.59 percent of his tackles.
