And they could feasibly have to take on Real Madrid or Barcelona, as well as Monaco and Inter Milan.
United will sit in pot two for the draw - with Real and Barca joined by Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Lokomotiv Moscow as potential opponents from pot one.
Meanwhile, some huge clubs are already guaranteed to sit in pot three - including Schalke, Monaco, Lyon and CSKA Moscow.
Even pot four, so often filled with some of Europe's minnows, is brimming with potential banana skins, with Inter Milan, Galatasaray and Hoffenheim three of the lowest seeds.
There are also a hatful of top teams still yet to learn their fate regarding which pot they sit in, including Liverpool - who can't play United in the group as rules forbid teams from the same nation being paired together.
The likes of Ajax and Valencia are also yet to discover which pot they will sit in for tomorrow's draw.
But United fans will be desperate for a kind draw - in what looks to be a particularly competitive tournament this year.
Liverpool supporters will also face an anxious wait, as they too face the potential for a horror draw and could slip into pot three, despite reaching last year's final.
