The goalkeeper has just one left to run on his current contract with Chelsea, meaning the Premier League club must do whatever they need to so they don’t lose the goalkeeper for free.
And in an exclusive interview with The Sun, the Belgian’s agent Christophe Henrotay made clear in no uncertain terms that Courtois has his heart set on a move back to Madrid.
Courtois, who won the World Cup golden gloves, is no new to playing life at Madrid having spent three years on loan with Atletico Madrid before returning the Chelsea and he has his children in the Spanish capital as well.
The Blues manager Maurizio Sarri suggested earlier this week that a move would be “up for the goalkeeper” but his agent Henrotay insists the issue in the goalkeeper’s move to Madrid is Chelsea’s refusal to sell him.
He said:
“I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid.
“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.”
