Heading into the new season, much was said about Chelsea’s need for a new striker, which is understandable given Alvaro Morata’s struggles at the club since joining from Real Madrid last summer.

But going forward, the addition of another winger could be just as important, and it is something the Chelsea hierarchy are clearly thinking about.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues will launch a big-money raid on Borussia Dortmund for the highly-rated Christian Pulisic in January as they look to bolster Maurizio Sarri’s options in that area of the pitch.

However, if the club are planning to do some shopping in Germany and at Dortmund when the transfer window opens, then there should only really be one player they are looking at. And it is not Pulisic.

Rather, the 2016/17 Premier League champions would be better off throwing everything at the new England international Jadon Sancho, who has been a revelation in the Bundesliga this season.

Despite being just 18 years of age, Sancho has shown so much maturity in his play which is being reflected in his numbers. On top of being able to skin a full-back inside out, he is picking out the right pass afterwards, evident from the six assists he has already racked up during this campaign.

The Dortmund winger is showing the kind of decision-making currently lacking from this current crop of Chelsea wide men bar Eden Hazard.

Pedro and Willian a lot of the time do not get their heads up and end up making the wrong pass with the latter especially guilty of doing such of late.

The Chelsea duo are also both in their 30s meaning sooner or later the club will have to chase at least one replacement. And when that time comes, there may not be a better option than Sancho.

With the Manchester City youth product on one flank and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the other, Chelsea could one day have the most exciting attack in the Premier League.
