£140,000-a-week star to agree Man United transfer – Deal Close

According to reports, Spain international and Manchester United’s midfielder Juan Mata has been linked with a return back to Valencia this summer.

The former Chelsea midfielder, who has registered about 41 international appearances for Spain, is out of contract with the Red Devils next summer.

The 30-year-old played the full 90 minutes during Man Utd’s 2-1 opening Premier League victory against Leicester City on Friday night, assisting Luke Shaw’s winning striker.

As reported by The Sun, the British tabloid claim the central midfielder could be set for an emotional return to La Liga next year, when his current contract with the Red Devils expires.

With his current contract at Old Trafford expiring in 2019, the Spaniard as per reports, has reportedly held initial talks over a contract extension with Man United, but without any major developments.

A United source said:

“It is well known Juan is wanted by Valencia.

“There is a strong connection between the two.

“His deal is up next summer and it looks likely he’ll leave unless something changes soon.

“We know Juan’s motives are not related to money and there’s a very strong emotional attachment to take into account.”

Mata, who earns around £140,000-a-week at The Theatre of Dreams, scored 46 goals in 174 appearances for Valencia between the 2007 and 2011, before his reported £23.5m move to Chelsea back in the summer of 2011.

He then joined Man United in 2014 for a then club-record fee of £37.1m, and he has scored 39 goals in 187 appearances for Man United, winning the UEFA Europa League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the FA Community Shield.
