But after making it three wins out of three with Sunday’s 2-1 win at Newcastle under new boss Maurizio Sarri, Hazard says the confidence is starting to flow again.
“We need to keep this momentum,” said Hazard, who scored the opening goal from the penalty spot.
“We want to be at the top at the end of the season.
“It is just the beginning but confidence is coming and the goals are coming.”
The Belgium star even admits he doesn’t care about being kicked to bits as long as Chelsea win.
Hazard emerged battered and bruised after his first start since Belgium’s third place play-off win over England in the World Cup last month.
Despite twice requiring treatment following robust challenges from Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie and Mo Diame, the Blues’ midfielder had the last laugh.
He said: “It’s the Premier League, it is always like this, every weekend is the same.
“But I’m not complaining. I try to do my job and when you have the ball, you get kicked, so no complaints.
“That’s the first time I’ve won at Newcastle since I came to Chelsea so it was a massive win for us and I think we deserved it.”
Meanwhile, David Luiz admits he would have quit Chelsea if Antonio Conte had stayed as manager.
Luiz found himself out in the cold after falling out with Conte but is now back in favour under Sarri.
He said: “If the manager had stayed the same, of course, everybody knows maybe I had to move clubs.

“Now I am here and so happy.
“I’m enjoying it a lot, we have a great philosophy, a great manager and an amazing spirit in the team so it’s great to be playing.
“We are trying to get points at the beginning because as everybody knows it’s a new system and a new philosophy so we are trying to do our best.
“It’s not easy to win points in the Premier League so if we can get them now, at the beginning of the season, when we are adapted to the style it’s going to be even better for us.”
* Midfielder Danny Drinkwater is set to stay at Chelsea with no other club showing any firm interest in signing him on loan.
