Star Player who chose Everton over Manchester United for this simple reason… and Jose Mourinho could be to blame
YERRY MINA picked Everton ahead of Manchester United - because of a call from Marco Silva and a snub from Jose Mourinho.
Colombian centre half Mina was wanted by the Premier League pair and shocked many by joining the Toffees despite United’s late push for him.
However Mina has told pals that the real clincher was a personal chat with Silva who rang him to tell him why he should join Everton.
Astonishingly Mourinho did not contact the defender as scheduled while United fretted about finding a centre half - and he blamed his bosses for failing to land their targets.
Mina was puzzled by the lack of contact from United or their boss. He came back to Barcelona from a holiday expecting to head to Old Trafford after they met his agent.
United pulled back from the deal because his adviser wanted too much. But then they went on to Barca and made a new offer without him.
But in those vital days leading up to the deadline Silva contacted Mina and convinced him he was interested while the call from Mourinho failed to come.
Mina and team mate Andre Gomes had their medicals in Barcelona on deadline day while United’s negotiators were left shocked back in England.
The Colombian is yet to be involved in a matchday squad for Everton since his £28.5million move to Goodison Park due to a foot injury.
But he is expected to be available for the Toffees after the international break, while Mourinho must travel to Burnley with the centre backs he had last season, including his own signings Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.
