The Daily Mail claims Chelsea are ready to sign a top-class striker in the winter, with Krzysztof Piatek and Mauro Icardi top of Maurizio Sarri’s wishlist. Icardi would be Maurizio Sarri’s first choice, but Chelsea claims it will be a huge task to convince Inter to part with their captain mid-season.
Serie A giants would also demand a huge transfer fee, and could cost Chelsea over £90 million and a release clause of £97.5 million does not activate until the summer and Inter are in the midst of efforts to convince the Argentina star to sign a new contract.
Genoa’s sensation Piatek would be the preferred back-up and Chelsea think it might be easier to lure the Pole away from Italy than convince Icardi. The 23-year-old hitman has been an instant hit in Italy, netting 13 goals in just nine matches this campaign.
Piatek is being tracked by a host of top clubs including Bayern Munich after nine goals in eight league appearances.
Napoli are prepared to pay £30m for Piatek, while reports from Italy suggest Genoa will slap a £40m asking price on their star man.
