Emery tell Arsenal board to complete bizarre January signing – Fans will be happy

Unai Emery wants to bring Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas to Arsenal, after the Costa Rica international’s demotion to the bench in recent months.

Navas began the season as a starter, before losing his spot to Thibaut Courtois. The 32-year-old last played a league game all the way back in August, and he hasn’t appeared in the Champions League since October.

Spanish outlet AS (via Bein Sports) write that Arsenal could provide the solution to his game time problem, with Unai Emery ‘actively seeking’ a goalkeeper.

Mundo Deportivo write that Navas ‘is about to leave’ Madrid, and say Arsenal are ‘one of the strongest clubs bidding for him’. However, MD add that there are also options for the goalkeeper in France and Italy.

Petr Cech is currently struggling for matches himself, having played just once this month, and being without a league start since September.

With his contract expiring at the end of the season, perhaps the 36-year-old might start looking for a new club in January. If that’s the case, Navas could join to compete with Bernd Leno for starts.

Navas has a contract in Spain until 2020, so Real Madrid are likely to want him to make a decision on his future in the next window or two. We’ll see what happens.
