Sky Sports CONFIRMS Arsenal agree deal with Serie A giants for World Cup winner

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been linked with a possible January move to Serie A side Inter Milan after his total omission from Arsenal’s squad for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final exit against Tottenham Hotspur brought a new speculation about his future.

The German last signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners 11 months ago to make him the club’s highest paid player on reported wages of £350,000-per-week. However, Ozil appears to be out of favour with the North London club boss Unai Emery, who prefers fielding players with high energy.

Ozil was dropped at the end of August and again in October. But then returned to the team and had a sweet performance as captain when his side trashed Leicester City, but poor performances in the week aftermath, appeared to lose him the trust of Emery.

Ozil was also left on the bench when Arsenal travelled to Bournemouth last month and then missed three games, including the huge clashes against Spurs and Manchester United after complaining of back trouble.

The 2014 World Cup winner the registered just 20 minutes off the bench as a substitute in the recent 3-2 loss against Southampton and was out of the eam altogether for the match against Tottenham.

Now, a report from the Daily Mail notes that Inter Milan are among several teams “still interested” in Ozil, with the tabloid describing Emery’s decision to drop Ozil for tactical reason as the ‘biggest hint yet’ that he is willing to cut Ozil loose.

Emery avoided questions about Ozil’s Arsenal future after the game and he said, via Arsenal.com:

“My focus now is analyzing this match and also Saturday against Burnley is very important. We are going to assess every player, how they are tomorrow in training and for a difficult match against Burnley on Saturday.
“I am thinking about the match on Saturday, and not thinking about another situation.”
With Ozil the North London club’s highest earner, the Gunners would be looking for fee not less than 100 million if they are to part ways with him.
